The project in the energy capital of the world, Aberdeen, will see over 30 partners from 9 different countries come together across the entire hydrogen value chain to decarbonise mobility, agriculture, industry and construction, by taking advantage of Scotland’s vast offshore wind potential to produce green hydrogen and e-ammonia.

Aberdeen, a leader in hydrogen energy in the UK for over a decade, has long been established as one of the first-mover locations for EU H2 activities and is now in a strong position for this next phase of innovation with the foundations it’s built

The TH2ISTLE project builds on this distinguished hydrogen heritage; it promises to help accelerate the North-East Scotland’s energy transition by establishing the UK’s first small-scale Hydrogen Valley. TH2ISTLE proposes an innovative ‘demand-led’ approach, leveraging new and existing private and public sector funding. HyEnergy aims to stimulate hydrogen uptake across focused sectors including mobility, agriculture, food and drink, and construction. To support adoption, we plan to install infrastructure at key nodes, across the region.

A dedicated programme of scaling and replication studies will extend TH2ISTLE’s impact across Scotland, the UK and continental Europe. The project is ideally positioned to leverage over 17 GW of proposed ScotWind capacity, alongside an enriched local supply‑chain and a skilled workforce backed by historical experience. It also supports a just transition by enabling reskilling pathways for oil and gas professionals and fostering growth in hydrogen and renewable industries.

By driving early‑stage innovation, supporting research partnerships and creating a replicable Hydrogen Valley model, TH2ISTLE represents a major opportunity to capture the benefits of a sustainable, low‑carbon hydrogen future, locally, nationally and globally.

Hyenergy's part in TH2ISTLE

HyEnergy is taking on many roles in the TH2ISTLE Hydrogen Valley, drawing on its experience in many key areas to ensure smooth deployment of appropriately designed and specified equipment through out participation in the Deployment Steering Group, as well as facilitating and delivering key insights and reports to spread learnings and models from the project’s successes to surrounding areas and regions to encourage new Hydrogen Valley developments.

Using experience from the flagship HEAVENN Hydrogen Valley, HyEnergy leads infrastructure operation, Monitoring and Data Management, ensuring key performance data is secured safely and then utilised and analysed for project and CHP reporting. The team will also be part of key tasks and deliverables to support delivery and Roadmaps, Business Models, Scaling Studies and Replications outputs.
